Sony y Panasonic han presentado una nueva técnica que permite ampliar la capacidad de los discos blu-ray hasta 33,4GB por capa (frente a los 25GB actuales). Su nombre es i-MLSE y consiste en optimizar el sistema de corrección de errores del formato, de forma que pueda aprovecharse más espacio para almacenar datos. La ventaja de i-MLSE es que puede aplicarse a la tecnología blu-ray actual, sin necesidad de modificar la producción de los discos ni las ópticas de los lectores. No queda claro sin embargo si requerirá algún hardware extra para la nueva codificación o bastará con una actualización de firmware. En cualquier caso, el sistema será presentado ante la Blu-ray Disc Association para su próxima aprobación.

No termino de entender el objetivo. El blue ray es un formato muerto, las memorias flash terminarán comiéndole la tostada... y cuando la velocidad de la red pueda ofrecer una buena calidad en streaming ni los soportes físicos van a ser necesarios.

Xavi. Tanto el Blu-ray, como las memorias flash de gran capacidad (32Gb), están a un precio muy elevado. Seguro que si los Blu-ray se ponen al mismo precio que los DVDs, tendrán mucho éxito. Con respecto al streaming, avisame dentro de 10 años...
De todas formas, hay pocos juegos que requieran toda la capacidad de un Blu-ray (escepto Gran Turismo 5).
